Artist Statement:
In my practice, abstraction becomes a language of rhythm, memory, and transformation. The LitStract Series explores the tension between chaos and harmony, layering spontaneous gestures with intentional design. Each canvas emerges as a dialogue between vibrant color and muted space, evoking sound, movement, and light as lived experiences.
As an artist grounded in both technology and creativity, I approach the canvas much like a coded system—structured yet open to disruption. My strokes and splatters echo the syncopation of hip hop, the improvisation of jazz, and the vibrancy of city life. Works such Blood on the Leaves and The Speed of Sound pulse with intensity, while pieces such as Northern Lights and Twilight lean into illumination, reflecting both external landscapes and internal meditations.
My art is not simply about abstraction but about reimagining how we see ourselves in color, form, and movement. As a man of African descent, my work carries forward a lineage of resilience, cultural rhythm, and spiritual grounding. In these abstract narratives, faith and heritage converge with the modern pulse of technology, music, and urban culture—illuminating pathways toward transformation.
The LitStract Series invites viewers to slow down and step inside the movement of paint, where chaos reshapes into beauty and abstraction becomes a mirror of lived experience.
Curatorial Statement (Exhibition Concept):
iLLuminate is a sensory journey through color, rhythm, and revelation. In this series, light itself becomes both subject and collaborator — an unseen brush that transforms each work as it moves across the surface. As illumination shifts, new pigments, hidden metallics, and subtle tones emerge, reminding us that perception — like faith — is ever evolving.
Through layers of splattered color, fluid motion, and rhythmic vibration, these works translate sound and spirit into visual frequency. The canvases pulse like music — drawing from the syncopation of hip-hop, the improvisation of jazz, and the divine resonance found in moments of stillness. Each piece hums with energy, challenging the boundary between chaos and order, between the material and the metaphysical.
Inspired by the idea that enlightenment is not a fixed state but a continuous unfolding, iLLuminate invites viewers to witness transformation in real time. Under varying light, color becomes a metaphor for revelation — what was once hidden becomes radiant. The series bridges street and sanctuary, exploring how the creative act itself is an expression of faith, rhythm, and the eternal dance of energy, light and life.
Title: Speed of Light video example (lighting effect) Lit Studios (Open Studio)
Twilight 20in w x 24in l Blue falls to near-black while yellow drips cut through like evening lights. Patterns gather in the middle and dissolve below. In dim rooms, the piece glows—hence Twilight.
Northern Lights 36in w x 24in l Soft pillars of light float across a dark field like the hem of the Almighty’s valiant robe, a prayer in the night. Hushed, slow, and steady this is color breathing. It’s the quiet side of wonder.
Verdant Flow 48in w x 24in l On soft green, strokes, dots, and drips stream across the center like breath. The edges stay quiet so the middle can sing. Life traveling in one direction: forward.
Rosebud 18in w x 24in l Pink, purple, and blue haze with neon gestures cutting through—tenderness with an edge. Lines weave the color like a melody. It’s a bloom becoming itself.
Dandelions 18in w x 24in l Bursting dots and bright magenta streaks lift off an olive ground like wishes in the wind. Gold notes glimmer as if catching sunlight. It’s a reminder that small seeds carry big stories.
Bronze Botanical 48in w x 36in l A golden stem rises through a weathered brown—life glowing from the inside. Turquoise and magenta flickers keep the air lively. Nature, abstracted and illuminated.
Burning Bush 30in w x 40in l Fire tones surge; white strokes slice; purple curves thread the heat. This is the God flame wild, alive, and present. Revelation made visible.
L.A. Dreams 20in w x 20in l Neon memory over a purple haze—soundtracked by 80s airwaves. Dots and camo marks scatter like night lights on Sunset. This is nostalgia in motion
Miami Dreams 18in w x 24in l A turquoise sky with a vertical rush of color—heat rising. Splashes climb like nightlife in motion, vibrant and unbothered. This one is sun, salt, and sound.
Disco 40in w x 30in l Dot clusters spark and a thin blue line snakes the floor—late-night energy on a black ground. It’s the geometry of a dance you can’t forget. Everything’s moving, even the dark.
Rust 36in w x 24in l A clean break: turquoise to the left, smoky bronze-brown to the right. Along the seam, raw marks and splatter keep the line honest. Beauty lives in the meeting point.
Decay 40in w x 30in l A diagonal current of rust and silver holds the space between ending and renewal. Color drips and splatters pulse across the divide, turning erosion into revelation. This is decay as creation — the beauty found in letting go.
Ascension Split 40in w x 30in l Turquoise and orange stand apart, bridged by a green-to-purple veil. Splashes travel both ways—division turning into dialogue. Ascension is movement through the middle.
Chromatic Metamorphosis 48in w x 36in l Chrome-cool left, fire-bright right—joined by a turquoise bridge. Splashes leap the gap, turning contrast into change. This is transformation in plain color. A metamorphosis
Electric Winter 24in w x 48in l Cool blues, soft silvers, and a radiant surge of red collide in this luminous composition. Neon splashes arc and scatter with rhythmic motion, echoing the spark of winter light cutting through stillness. Electric Winter captures the tension between seasonal quiet and the unseen pulse beneath it a moment where cold air turns electric and color becomes movement.
Blood on the Leaves 24in w x 18in l Green life and red rupture collide on a textured gray field, like breath and heartbeat in the same moment. The splashes move from calm to eruption, holding tension and mercy in one frame. I’m chasing that space where struggle and renewal meet
G-Clef 24in w x 48in l Black curves sweep like a staff line; color riffs in the margins. Everything bends toward melody. This is movement you can read and hear
The Dance 18in w x 24in l Smoke, rhythm, and flickers of color—this one moves like bodies in low light. Orange and turquoise cut through the blue-black haze and turn motion into melody. It’s choreography made of paint
The Drop 24in w x 36in l A warm gradient falls toward red while a metallic block grounds the corner. Blue-green arcs climb like a chorus rising. When the beat hits, color follows.
The Speed of Sound 48in w x 24in l Magenta surges, edges cut, and color scatters like a track dropped in real time. Motion isn’t implied—it’s happening. You can almost hear it.
